Working to improve the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families
Concordia College alumni Isaac Berling lost his college roommate and football teammate Bill Oehlers to suicide a few years after graduation. On the fifth anniversary of Bill’s death, Isaac and nine of Bill’s other college friends spent a day bowling to honor their friend’s life and raise money for NAMI Minnesota.
The friends came clad in their best bowling shirts, a nod to Bill’s habit of wearing an ugly bowling-style button up whenever the friends were expected to wear a tie or dress clothes at school. Together, the ten friends raised $800 for NAMI Minnesota, surpassing their $500 goal.
“We picked NAMI as the charity we wanted to donate to in his name because of their outstanding reputation for advocacy, services, support and education,” Berling said. For more information on how you can hold a fundraiser to benefit NAMI Minnesota, call 651-645-2948.
