NAMI offers educational classes and workshops for families affected by mental illness. A current list of classes can be found in the Education section under
"Classes."
Hope for Recovery - A one-day, six-hour education workshop for families and individuals which covers symptoms of mental illness, crisis recognition and problem solving.
Family-to-Family Education Program - A free 12-week course that helps families and friends understand and cope with the mental illness of a loved one.
Children's Challenging Behaviors Workshops
- This one-day workshop is for parents of children with challenging behaviors. Information is provided on childhood mental health disorders along with suppport and strategies for home and school.
Kidshops - Offers support and information to kids (ages 7-18) who have a parent or sibling with a mental illness. A concurrent speaker is offered for parent education.
NAMI-MN Video Helps Families of Returning Soldiers
NAMI Minnesota and TPT recently collaborated on a video to help families of returning soldiers. The program,
"Coming Home: Supporting Your Soldier," was aired many times on public television in 2008. Copies in DVD or VHS are available for $20. Contact the NAMI office to order.
NAMI-MN and Twin Cities Public Television's Video Wins Award
"Hope for Recovery: Understanding Mental Illness" was recently honored with an Eric Sevareid Award of Merit through the Northwest Broadcast News Association. The half-hour program focuses on adults with mental illness. A second video titled
