According the the National Institute on Drug Abuse, children and adolescents with psychiatric conditions are at a higher risk of abusing drugs than other youth.
A free conference on youth substance abuse called From Statistics to Solutions: Addressing the Underlying Issues of Youth Substance Abuse will be held on May 11, from 9:00-4:00, at Hennepin Technical College, 9000 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Park. The conference is free, or $15 for those wanting CEUs. Five CEUs are offered in Nursing or Social Work.
This conference will consist of four different panel discussions and include experts from a range of fields; including Medical, Prevention, Legal, Law Enforcement, Pharmaceutical, Legislative, Treatment and Education. Discussions will focus on tools to bring about solutions to the overwhelming needs of young people struggling with co-occurring disorders. Register, here.
