Volunteer Trainings

Each volunteer is asked to attend two NAMI educational programs as part of an orientation process: Get to Know NAMI and Hope for Recovery. Each is offered at least once a month, and upcoming sessions are listed or linked below. Volunteer and Internship candidates are welcome to register and attend the orientation programs at any point in the application and placement process.
The next Get to Know NAMI classes are set for:
St. Paul, April 4, 11:30-12:30 at NAMI's new office, 1919 University Ave. W., Suite 400.
Burnsville, May 8, 7:00–8:00 p.m., Mary Mother of the Church, 3333 E. Cliff Rd.

April 21 - Family Support Group facilitator training, NAMI office, 9:00-5:00, 1919 University Ave. W., Suite 400, St. Paul. Find out how to apply, here.

Hope for Recovery - Participants in this workshop learn about mental illnesses, treatments, coping strategies, the mental health system and local resources, and leave with a solid foundation for dealing with the complexities of mental illness. Reservations are requested. Workshops are held Saturdays from 9:00 to 3:00 unless otherwise noted, and participants are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch. Find classes and register, here.

After the initial volunteer screening and placement interview, selected applicants will be invited to attend a position-specific training. These trainings range from an hour in length to multiple days, depending upon the placement, and prepare our volunteers for the specific tasks they will undertake in their volunteer roles.

Please note that while NAMI has regularly occurring training for some positions, most are offered only once or twice a year. Applicants will be placed on a wait-list in the interim.
